Adult & Community Educators and Youth Workers:

Join us for our 2-day exploration of systems thinking in the context of GCE. This will be an interactive, participative workshop with other folks interested in learning creatively about systems. We will cover:

principles of living systems

understanding what we mean by "complexity"

frameworks for systems thinking

mapping tools for exploring global justice issues

After this workshop you will have:

Access to our Exploring Systems Resource- as a PDF or Zine

More confidence to explore complex global justice topics creatively

More of an understanding of the principles of living systems

Language to talk about complexity in your context

Some new methods/ activities you can adapt to use with your group

Used a lot of post-it notes

What is systems thinking? How do we begin to visualise and make changes to the systems around us? What do we mean by complexity? How can this way of thinking and working with groups make us more effective change-makers? What tools are out there to support us to navigate complexity together?

In this two-day collaborative workshop Eimear will introduce creative methods to support learning about complex systems. Together we will work through activities and reflect on their application to our own practices. Eimear will facilitate conversation and learning around systems thinking as a way of seeing the world and making change. Together we will adapt and refine methods and tools that we can take away and begin using with the groups we work with.

This will be suitable for anyone who is working in a non-formal learning context with adults or older young people, interested in engaging in global justice issues. There will be some theory but it will be mostly about practicing methods, reflecting on their effectiveness and adapting them to suit different applications. Most methods will have a visual thinking approach but being able to draw is not a requirement. Bring your own creativity and open mind and willingness to participate.
