WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?
This dynamic intensive course is designed to support aspiring artists in building a strong, diverse portfolio for entry into third-level art and design programmes. Guided by a team of specialist lecturers, students will immerse themselves in a creative environment, gaining time, space and support in order to develop ideas, technical skill and a digital portfolio.
Beginning with core observational drawing techniques, the course expands across a wide range of disciplines including painting, printmaking processes, animation, photography and ceramics. Throughout the course, learners will produce a body of work while also learning how to document, select and curate their pieces into a cohesive digital portfolio essential for college applications.
An important part of the course is exposure to the wider art world where students are introduced to varying artists and processes as well as visiting local galleries (where applicable) engaging with both historical and contemporary artists to inform and inspire their own practice.
With small class sizes, hands-on practice and guidance from experienced artists, this course offers an inspiring and supportive introduction to both traditional and contemporary art practices. By the end of the programme, students will leave with increased creative confidence and skills to compile their own diverse portfolio.
