Just Another Day
MTU Cork School of Music is delighted to present a special performance of Just Another Day, a poignant and deeply moving play written by acclaimed actor and playwright Dan Lauria.
Starring Dan Lauria (best known for The Wonder Years) alongside Patty McCormack (The Bad Seed), this compelling production explores the universal themes of memory, ageing, and enduring love. Through moments of tenderness, humour, and emotional honesty, the play offers a powerful portrayal of a couple navigating the challenges of dementia, inviting audiences to reflect on the resilience of human connection.
In Just Another Day, a comedy writer and a sophisticated poet in their seventies meet daily on a park bench to exchange wits and barbs, and wax nostalgic about old movies, all the while trying to figure out how they know – and love – each other. At least for that day. The characters cling to the creative spirit of each other in order to fight another day. This is not a story of the family or the loved ones who have to deal with their elders who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s but of two poetic souls who use words and humor as a beacon, a lighthouse to guide them through a foggy world. As long as they create, they are not lost. We hope that this play will bring a greater understanding of the creative instinct that lives on in those that suffer from memory loss. A spirit, an instinct, a love, that cannot be replaced by any app or mechanical device.
This event forms part of the MTU Age Friendly University Initiative, celebrating inclusivity and fostering meaningful engagement with topics that resonate across generations.
Guests are invited to arrive early and enjoy a complimentary light lunch at 12:00 PM, followed by the performance at 1:00 PM in the Stack Theatre, MTU Cork School of Music. The performance runs for approximately 95 minutes, including a short interval.
Presented in association with Masie Productions, this special event is free of charge, but advance booking is essential due to limited seating.
Sincere thanks to Elliott and Cathy Masie of MASIE Productions, and Dr Pio Fenton, MTU Vice President of People & Culture, for their support of this event.
