‘Make Or Break’ Creative Health and Wellbeing Programme,
‘Make Or Break’ Creative Health and Wellbeing Programme, developed as part of the Cork County Council Creative Ireland programme in 2023, is a new initiative that aims to enhance employee wellbeing through free creative workshops offered during workplace break times with local artists. The programme is offered to workplaces in the Cork / Kerry region, and is funded by Creative Ireland through the Creative Health and Wellbeing Scheme.
The ‘Make Or Break’ programme invites workplaces in Cork County and Kerry to participate, offering employees the opportunity to engage in new and fun creative activities facilitated by professional artists, suitable for all abilities. Designed to be both enjoyable and relaxing, the central focus of the programme is to offer employees the chance to get creative and to promote mental wellbeing, contributing to a positive workplace environment. Participants can explore a range of workshops including Printmaking, Drawing, Clay Sculpting, Embroidery, and Bookbinding to name but a few, and participants can select up to two topics to delve into over a 6 week programme of lunchtime sessions.
Presented by Cork County Council Library and Arts Service, in collaboration with Kerry County Arts Service, HSE Southwest and The Crawford Art Gallery. The project is coordinated by Sample-Studios, a professional artists studio group based in Cork City.
ABOUT these Make or Break workshops:
Exploring Materials, with Catherine Callanan:
Unleash your creativity with our engaging series of workshops designed for artistic expression using simple, accessible materials.
Clay Sculpting kicks off the series, using air-dry clay that’s odourless, non-stick, and easy to work with. This versatile material is perfect for beginners and requires minimal space, allowing for high-impact results with little risk of failure.
Wire and Paper Figurative Sculpting follows, where you’ll use low-gauge wire and recycled paper to create adaptable, expressive figures. This workshop sets the stage for future creative endeavours and promotes the use of waste materials.
Rock Art is a favourite trio of workshops building on previous skills. Start with Rock Felting, a soothing and popular activity that doubles as a stress reliever. Then, try Rock Sculpting, incorporating sustainable materials like twigs, shells, or bottle tops. Conclude with Rock Painting, where you can add secret messages or wishes to your rock creations, perfect for personalising and enhancing your space
Exploring Drawing, with Kate McElroy:
Immerse yourself in the world of creativity with our six-week drawing workshop series, designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Each week introduces a new, exciting technique.
Week 1 kicks off with Mini Sketchbooks, where you'll create small, portable sketchbooks perfect for capturing ideas on the go. In Week 2, dive into Collage Making, experimenting with combining different materials and textures to create unique compositions.
Week 3 focuses on Clay Tiles, allowing you to design and decorate textured tiles. Week 4 explores Cyanotypes, a historic photographic process that produces striking blue-toned prints.
Week 5 blends Drawing and Watercolour, teaching you how to integrate these mediums for vibrant, layered artworks. Conclude with Week 6’s Monoprinting, where you'll discover the art of creating one-of-a-kind prints with intriguing textures and patterns.
No previous experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore!
